Twelve inches of light snow fell yesterday, and today the channel looks pristine. As I walk across the berm, a bevy of duck take to the air. The duck hunting season ended a week ago but what do the ducks know of the state calendar? Up stream, a few cormorants gather in hopes of finding a filling meal. Fish beware! This morning, Evan reported that a neighbor had called asking for permission to hunt geese in the morning. The thought makes me shudder. It is not that I am against hunters, if they eat what they take, its just that hunting seems somewhat orthogonal to creating a wildlife preserve. No matter. Upstream, one of the cormorants readies himself for another dive.
